Mary: “I don’t know. I suddenly feel very uncomfortable. My head is spinning, and my stomach is churning.”
Tom: “Have you vomited?”
Mary: “No, but I feel like I’m going to.”
Tom: “Okay, lie down and elevate your feet. It might help if you can empty your stomach.” Mary: “I don’t think I can make it to the bathroom.”
Tom: “Try to stay calm. I’m going to get you some water and some medicine. Hopefully, that will help.”
Mary: “Thank you.”
Tom: “Here’s the water. Try to drink a little bit at a time.” Mary: “Okay.”
Tom: “Do you think you can keep the water down?” Mary: “I think so.”
Tom: “Good. I’m going to go get the medicine.” Mary: “Thank you.”
(Tom leaves and comes back with the medicine.)
Tom: “Here’s the medicine. It’s an anti-nausea medication. It should help your stomach feel better.” Mary: “Thank you.”
Tom: “Take one pill now and one pill in eight hours. That should do the trick.” Mary: “Okay.”
Tom: “If your symptoms don’t improve or if they worsen, call a doctor immediately.” Mary: “I will. Thank you so much for your help.”
