Last weekend, I visited a night fair. Walking along the street, there were many everyday things lying on the road, such as mobiles, handbags, caps, gloves, blouses, chopsticks, forks and even balloons. My purpose of visiting the night fair was clear. There was something I needed to buy.
The first thing I wanted to buy was the tea which is my father’s favorite. As we know, China is known for tea. Then do you know how to produce it? My mother has a great interest in them and she can make some simple paper cuttings with scissors. Along the road, there were many beautiful paper cuttings and cute clay arts. A businessman said that the clay pieces are usually cute children or lively characters from Chinese fairy tales or historical stories. These small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese have for life. They attracted me so much that I bought several from the fair.

This week, the subject for our school project was “Useful inventions”. Mr. Lin, our English teacher divided us into three groups and asked us to go online to find information about three useful inventions---tea, telephone and basketball.
Our group needed to find information about tea. Without doubt tea was invented in China. As a national drink, tea plays an important role in our daily life. Many people enjoy it because it not only smells and tastes well, but also
benefits our health. However, none of the students in our group knew how tea was invented. So we searched the Internet. The pioneers of tea cultivation were listed online. And to our surprise, most websites mentioned that tea was invented by accident by the Chinese ruler Shen Nong. One day Shen Nong was boiling drinking water in the open air. Some leaves from a nearby bush fell into the water and remained there for some time. And a pleasant smell came from the water then. He tasted the mixture and it was wonderful. And in this way, tea was invented. It is said that tea wasn’t brought to Western world until 1610, and the tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century. This helped to make tea more and more popular around the world.
Li Jing’s group needed to find how telephone was invented. They found that telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Belll. Mr. Bell worked on the invention of the telephone for nearly three years. In 1875, Mr. Bell learned how to send musical notes through an instrument similar to telephone and then telephone was invented.
Wang Yun’s group needed information about the invention of basketball. They found that basketball was invented by a Canadian doctor named James Naismith. When he was a college teacher, his class was once asked to invent a new game that could be played indoors during the long winters. Dr. Naismith created a game to be played inside on a hard floor. The aim of the game is for players to get a ball into the basket of the other team. In 1936 in Berlin basketball became an event at the Olympics. Now basketball is so popular that it brings about many basketball heroes around the world.

My parents are strict with me. There are many rules in my family. Let me tell you some of them.

Unit 8 Tony and Bill
Tony Elam works in a laboratory. He loves his job because he doesn’t need to wear a suit every day. He can wear his favorite coats. He alone raises his little son, Bill. Bill is five years old. Unit 9 My favorite music and films
I prefer to listen to music or watch films in my spare time, especially when I’m down or tired. Smooth music, movies with sadness or fun, when I shut off my brain and enjoy them, I can sense happiness or pain from them, and life seems more beautiful and worthwhile.
I like moving pieces of music. For movies, I have a wider interest. Movies
produced by different directors or masters about wars, history, science, family, life… are all my favorites except for scary movies or dramas. I even see a few documentaries. Movies with happy endings are my preferences. Once in a while, sad movies make me recall my own experiences and move me a lot.
