Posture

It expresses one’s indifference, submission, doubt or having no alternative. When one is puzzled about something, he often takes this posture.

表示漠不关心、屈从、疑惑或无可奈何。当一个人对某事感到莫名其妙时，常常会做这一姿势。

It drops a hint of complacency. It can also express that someone is fed up with or angry about something, or it is simply an unmindful manner.

It suggests that someone is shy, modest or sad. This posture is often taken by women. 表示害羞、忸怩、谦恭或悲哀，这是一种常见的女性姿势。

It gives people an impression of arrogance. In social activities, most people dislike talking with this kind of person because this gesture may suggest threat to others.

It's a kind of posture indicating direct intrusion into others’ affairs. One lays bare his heart and throat completely to show that he is undaunted.

2、 身势

Gesture

Shrugging one's shoulders can express that one is indifferent, powerless or having no secret to conceal.

耸肩：表示无可奈何、为力或已无所隐瞒了。

Bow: Deep bow is seldom used in some English-speaking countries except on the very special occasions when people mourn or lower their heads to say prayers for the dead.

鞠躬：深鞠躬的动作在英语国家用得很少。一般只用于悼念时向死者默哀，低头祈祷。

Bending one’s waist and legs, lowering the body and laying open the hands may express apology and acknowledge of one’s error. If customers find the goods they’ve purchased unsatisfactory and ask for a refund with anger, the boss and the shop assistant often use it to apologize.

Nodding: It's a very polite act often used in English-speaking countries when people say hello or good-bye to each other. When greeting or seeing someone off, nodding is also used to express salute to people like shaking hands. It’s the simplest courteous way to greet many people simultaneously . 点头：这是英语国家常见的礼貌动作，一般用于与别人打招呼或分手时道别。在迎送场合，点头和握手一样，是向许多人同时致敬的最简便的礼貌动作。

Taking off one's headgear It's often used when gentlemen express respect to women and say hello or good-bye to women.

脱帽：男子向女子表示敬意、打招呼或道别的动作。

Kissing a lady’s hand: It’s the general etiquette used to show respect to honorable women in western countries.

吻手礼：这是西方通行的对尊贵的妇女的礼节

4、 腿部动作

Leg movement

Standing with two legs crossed shows one’s self-protection or self-defending. It's often seen between strangers.

站立时两脚交叉往往是一种自我保护或封闭防御的姿势，在陌生人面前这种姿势很常见。

Stretching out one’s arms, legs with one’s toe towards the other speaker can be the gesture used when friends or acquaintances talk about something friendly and openly.

双腿和双臂张开，脚尖朝向谈话对方，是朋友和熟人之间友好交谈的开放姿势

The sitting gesture like a number \"4\" usually can be regarded as the gesture of discussion or competition.

5、头部动作

Head gesture

People in some English-speaking countries often hail someone to come near by raising the head.

英语国家的人常用扬头动作招呼人过来。

Using forehead and chin to give directions. The Chinese people often use lips while the westerners often use the lower palate.

可用前额和下巴指点方向。中国人用双唇，而英语国家的人则是下腭噘起。

In western countries, when people show anger, disappointment, tedium or anxiety, sometimes they face upward and smack the mouth. At the same time, they also blink their eyes or roll the eyeballs upward or toward one side.

表示愤怒、失望、厌烦或急躁时，有时仰一下头，嘴里还“咂、咂”有声，同时还可能眨

The body touch between people of the same sex shouldn’t be over intimate, or they’ll be regarded as homosexuality.

When two people walk together, shoulder to shoulder, they are supposed to keep a distance of 3~4 inches disregarding their sex.

In some crowded public places, people should avoid hustling together.

To give consolation, one can pat the other’s hand on the table or embrace him. A man tends to pat his subordinate’s, colleague’s or friend’s back to express encouragement or congratulations.

表示安慰时，常常拍拍对方放在桌上的手或拥抱一下对方。男子还爱用手拍拍下属、同事或朋友的背部，以示鼓励或祝贺。

One’s body can’t be collided by others, including children, especially little girls. A collision or embrace by a male adult may be doubted as an obscene attempt.

别人不能随便碰撞自己的身体，儿童往往也不例外，尤其是女童，如果遇到男性成年人碰触或拥抱往往会怀疑男子有猥亵的企图。

7、 面部动作

Face gesture

In some English-speaking countries, this is regarded as an act to cover up the lies, as if one tries to prevent lies from going out of his mouth.

英语国家的人认为是一种掩饰说谎的动作，好像是想防止谎话从嘴里出来.

It is also a motion to cover up one’s lies. Using forefinger to rub across one’s nose is another way to conceal one’s feeling.

也是一种掩饰说谎的动作。用食指横向摩擦鼻子，据说是护嘴动作的一种隐匿方式。

This is a motion to cover up one’s lies. If it is a big lie, one’s eyes will shift to another direction so as to shun the line of sight from the opposite side.

8、 微笑

Smile

The feelings of Chinese are very implicit. Joy, anger, grief and happiness can rarely be seen on their faces. A Chinese will greet his guests with a smile even when his family bears bitter sufferings, while a person in English-speaking countries will never conceal his inner grief when he suffers from unhappiness.

中国人感情过于含蓄，喜怒哀乐常常不形于色，即使家庭遭遇了不幸也要对客人笑脸相迎。

英语国家的人遇到不幸时是不会故意掩饰内心痛苦的。

9、 臂部动作

Arm gesture

When standing or walking, one may put his two arms on his back with one hand holding the other palm to indicate superiority complex and self-confidence. 站立和走路时，双臂背后并且用一只手握住另一只手掌，显示的往往是一种优越感和自信心。

When standing or walking, a person may put his two arms on the back with one hand holding the other wrist to show his frustration or the control of one’s feeling.

When standing and walking, one puts his two arms on the back with one hand holding the other arm to show the embittering of one’s anger or the attempt to control oneself.

Putting one’s hands on the bosom expresses honesty, sincerity or innocence. It is also used to refer to oneself.

10、手部动作

Hand gesture

It shows one’s complacency, idleness, jitters or restlessness.

表示洋洋自得、闲极无聊、紧张不安、极其无聊或烦躁不安。

The higher one puts the two crossed hands, the worse his mood is. It shows that one suffers from setbacks or hostility.

表现一种受挫折或敌视的态度。手位置越高，情绪越不好。

It is used when one airs one’s opinions or gives orders.

The gesture of an upward thumb expresses the intention to perish or destroy someone just like killing a bedbug.

将拇指按在桌子上，有时上下挑动，表示某人已将另一个人按在拇指下面了，即完全控制某人。拇指向上挑起来表示惩罚，还可表示将某人搓出去，即象捻死臭虫一样将某人消灭。

This is an act used when one hints with contempt another person to go away. 轻蔑地示意某人走开的动作。

Rotating one’s hand around is a weakened form of shaking one’s head in some English-speaking countries. This shows carelessness, hesitation. It also can indicate a homosexual or bisexual person.

英语国家用一种转动的动作，这是摇头动作的弱化，意思是马马虎虎、有一点儿犹柔寡断或犹豫不决，也可表示同性恋者或阴阳人。

Turning one’s palm upward shows one’s submission or lack of menace. Turning the palm downward shows one’s authority or domination. The former one conveys one’s sincerity and courtesy while the latter may enrage other people. Making a fist and throwing out one’s forefinger like holding out a stick can show that one compels the opposite side to obey, therefore it may easily irritate him.

手掌向上是一种顺从的、无威胁的姿势；手掌向下是权威的支配性的手势。手心向上时，

态度礼貌、诚恳；手心向下时则会激起对方的反感；手握拳并伸出食指，则像伸出棒子一样，大有迫使对方服从之势，因此最易激怒人。

People in English-speaking countries pay great attention to the implications of the thumb. They often use it to express a sense of superiority. In this picture, one shows up the thumb to display an attitude of superiority.

英语国家的人很注意大拇指所表示的含义，他们用拇指表示优越感，如图：露出拇指，显示的是优越的态度。

Encircling one’s two arms and pointing the thumbs upward can show one’s defense or advantage ground.

11、女士优先

Lady first

In a lift, a man should take off his headgear when there is women’s presence. 在电梯里，如果有妇女在场，男士必须脱帽。

In a meeting place or on a bus, men should be initiative to give their seats to women. 在会场和公共车辆上，男子主动给女子让座。

When dining with a lady, a man should offer her a better seat so that she can easily overlook the outer door scene or view the whole restaurant.

进餐时，让女士坐在容易眺望外景或能看到整个餐厅的座位上。

At the very first meeting, men should be introduced to ladies first. 初次见面要先把男士介绍给女士。

When men and women walk together or go out together, women should have the priority. (Lady first.).

12、眼部动作

Eye movement

Looking at the opposite side in a talk expresses one’s courtesy. 交谈中注视对方表示礼貌。

Eyes looking sideways can show one’s coldness and superciliousness.

眼睛旁顾，态度冷淡，目空一切的眼神。

This expression in one’s eyes is an aggressive act. 带有侵略性的眼神。

The speakers are having eyeball contact with each other. 谈话人之间的目光交流。

A woman using a closed posture is to avoid the straight sight from a man. 以封闭的体态回避男士直射来的目光。
