(VI) TEACHING PROCEDURE Step 1Lead-in
Teacher(I): greeting words: Good morning,class. Today we’ll learn unit 9. How was your weekend? Are you happy today? You look so great,so you must be happy. (warm up)Now I'll show you a new song. Yesterday once more . When you listen to the song, please try to recall your childhood,your beautiful childhood. Or your yesterday, what did you do yesterday, what did you do last weekend?(5m')(in order to arouse the Ss's passion by the song, and present the past tense of the verbs.)
Step 2After the song ,learning the new sentence and the new words by PPT
then the teacher communicates with the students: (ask the students) what did you do last weekend?
(get them to answer) I did my homework, cleaned my room ,played soccer ,went to the beach ,went to the movies, studied for the math test did some reading ,practiced English...more
The teacher should write the sentence structure on the blackboard and tell Ss they are grammar focus.
Step 3 Then let Ss learn the verbal phrase in part 1b and find out the transaction rules of the regular verbs and irregular verbs.

Just like that above. There are two kinds of verbs, regular verbs and irregular verbs. For a regular verb we should add ed at the end of it, and for an irregular verb it has a different form, its past form. (1) Play the tape of part 1b and check the answers, during the checking time , Ss can practice the target sentence :what did she do last weekend? On Saturday morning, she played tennis.
(2) Play the tape of part 2a and underline the words ,then check.

(3) Play the tape of part 2b again, and get the students to fill in the blankswith the names they hear.
After the listening work, the teacher should give a summary about the phrases and key sentences.
The teacher should write the sentence structure on the blackboard and tell Ss they are grammar focus.
1b Listening and writing
Here is a conversation. Let’s listen to the tape and write the day and “morning”, “afternoon” or “night” below each picture.
Have you got the answers? The teacher and students are talking about their weekends. Listen to the tape and underline the words you hear.

We are going to talk in imitation of the conversations we have just heard and read.
Step 5 pair work 1c and 2c
A: What did you do last weekend? B: I stayed at home. A: What about your friend, Carol? B: She practiced English. What did you do? A: I studied for the math test. Using the expressions what Ss have learned, act the conversation.( the teacher combines 1a with 2c in order to save time . So that it can do more

(It is necessary to practice as much as possible, and the more you apply it in real situation, the more it will become natural. Then you can blurt it out. it’s quite useful to acquire the target language for them.) Step 6 guessing game
Rules : every student can get the chance to guess. There are 9 numbers on the PPT. You can choose one. When a student choose ,he should guess and answer the teacher's question.
(Let the students guess what did the person do in the picture. The game can make Ss take an active part in the class and it can also make them grasp the key language and the past tense of the verbs. ) (To make Ss acquire the knowledge completely.) Step 7 memory challenge : who will be the memory king?
Rules : the teacher will show a picture with lots of activities. Ss should remember them in 20 seconds. When time is up, the teacher will make the picture disappear. Then Ss can take the challenge and answer one by one. if a students get the most points , he will be the memory king . So he will get the big hand.
Step 8 summary and homework
Summarize Ss have learned. The past tense of the verbs. The key sentense: what did you/ he/ she / they do? I/ he/ she/ they .......
