Okay, let’ get it started, couple of days ago, when I was shopping in the Joy City, I received a phone call from one of my old friends whose name is Shawn. Actually Shawn was my English teacher when I was in university. But it has been over 5 years since my graduation, and we rarely/barely talked to each other. It was really glad to talk to him again through the phone.

But there was something else worth the happiness. During the phone conversation, Shawn praised my English proficiency, you know, that’s not easy to receive his positive feedbacks towards my English ability. And, I can tell you that his compliment really cheered me up. Not only that, Shawn told me he is living in London right now, and lucky me, I am gonna continue my study in London in August, so, I will not be afraid of loneliness when I arrive in that strange country. I believe that Shawn’s existence will make me feel homey in London. I am kind of expecting my stay in London already.

Describe an important celebration (in your culture) that you have taken part in. You should say:

When this celebration was held

Who attended this celebration (or, who was involved in this celebration)

What people (or, you) did during this celebration And explain why this celebration was (or, is) important.

Last year, I went back to my hometown for the celebration of dragon boat festival. It was an extraordinary experience; you know I witnessed some of the typical celebrations first time in real life. And tell you the truth that the most impressive part of that celebration is the dragon boat racing. I remember that this celebration falls on the 5th of May in Lunar calendar, on that day, big crowds of local citizens rushed to the river called Hong River to participate in this traditional celebration. There were 4 teams competed for the championship, each team has a paddled (有桨的) water craft with decorative Chinese dragon head and tail, and the racing distance was about 1 kilometer. Apart from the

dragon boat racing, many other activities were taken place too, like dragon dancing and eating rice puddings and things like that, anyway, that was really interesting. Actually, there was a story behind this festival and all the activities, long time ago, there was a man called Quyuan who was a renowned poet and also a politician and he committed ritual (仪式) suicide as a form of protest against the corruption of local area. After learning about his death, many locals rushed out on the water in their fishing boats to the middle of the river and tried desperately to rescue Qu Yuan. They beat drums and splashed the water with their paddles in order to keep the fish and evil spirits from his body. Meanwhile, they scattered 分散 rice into the water to prevent him from suffering hunger. And this is how Duanwu Festival came into our culture.

An occasion when you were late

A time that you were stuck in a traffic jam

About a year ago, my best friend asked me to join his graduation ceremony. You know he lived in Tianjin city, and I was living in Beijing at that time, then I had to go there by rail way. The time for the train was about 10am, and where I lived was not very far from the train station, it was about 20mins away from my place, then I left home at 9:30, you know I thought for half an hour would be good enough, however I was wrong.

Once I hopped in the taxi, I began to regret that I should have left home even earlier, because the traffic was like a hell, I mean all the cars were crawling on the road, and for half an hour, we had only traveled for few hundred meters.

I believe that you have already known the consequence of that, sir. I missed the train, and had to wait for another day,

and actually on the second day when I was in TIANJIN, my friend’s graduation ceremony was finished already. Thank god, my friend he didn’t blame me a lot, but I felt shame and guilty. That’s why since then I was never late for any occasion or something important.

Describe a time that you had to share something with someone You should say: When was that time? Who did you share with?
