13、In 1996, Joe Richman had been working as a radio reporter on US national radio for several years and was looking for a new idea for a radio programme. He met a teenager called John Cutler. John had Tourette's Syndrome—a brain illness. This meant that Josh did not always have control of his movements and speech.

John was just beginning high school when he agreed to work with Joy on a story about his illness. Joe wanted John to keep a radio diary of his daily life. He gave John a tape recorder and asked him to record what happened to him every day. John and Joe agreed that an important part of his story would be talking to his school friends about Tourette's Syndrome. John was embarrassed(尴尬) to record at school—his friends might laugh.

One day, John took the tape recorder to school, but he kept it inside his bag all day. He was too afraid to bring it out. After months of feeling afraid, he took the tape recorder out on lunch time. What happened next was a total surprise. John tells it best:“Everyone jumped at the chance. Everyone started asking me questions about that, I had never really talking about it to anyone—except my mom and dad. ”

That was an important day in John's life because he learned to be more open about his condition. Now John says he wants to do radio diaries until he's 80 years old. 15、Tanzania Tarangire is a national Park which lies in Tanzania. The park itself covers an area of around 2,850 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest park of its kind in the country.I recently visited Tarangire to see what it was like.

One of the first sightings upon entering the park which I found was a huge group

of elephants. Our guide told us that Tagrangire was probably the best place in Tanzania to find large group of elephants, and that their population in the park was around 2,1.We continued to watch the elephants as they stood under trees and scratched themselves against the trees to hit the spot of an itch. To the right of the elephant group, we noticed a big tree! Our guide informed us that this was a Baobab tree and that they could live for hundreds of years.Compared with this tree, the elephant just looked like dwarfs (much smaller plants or animals)! We were informed that Tarangire was one of the best National Parks in Africa to see so many Baobab trees.

As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us.It took us all a while to find them, but there they were! Most of them are resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us.We then noticed just to our right, there were a couple of fresh zebra bodies — it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them! We were unlucky not to have seen the kill, as our guide had mentioned that the zebra bodies were fresh and the kill had happened

within the last hour.

Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see, even our guide! We stopped at a place where there were quite a many cars, with a sleeping leopard(美洲豹)there! We took photos and watched its surprising body before returning to our hotel as it was getting late.

So, I hope you enjoyed my description of Tarangire, and add this amazing park to your very own Tanzania travel route. 2.Which statement is correct about the park? C.They helped each other to knock down the dirty things on their bodies D.They guarded their baobab trees, fighting the terrible leopards and lions. 4.What does the passage possibly tell us? 18、Fashion treadmill desks (跑步机办公室) might actually help improve job performance after employees get used to

D.¥200

working while walking, according to new research.

A yearlong study of workers at a company St. Paul, Minn, found that the productivity of 40 treadmill users dropped at first because they were unable to master typing and operating a mouse while walking at a speed of up to two miles per hour.

But within four to six months, measures (测量) of performance-quality, the amount of work done, and the quality of interactions(互动) with workmates rose gradually, according to weekly surveys. At the end of the survey period, workers with treadmill desks improved their performance, which was 0.1 points higher than that before the project began. For tasks like solving problems or taking conference calls, “ A little bit of walking is useful because it means there’s more blood flow to the brain,” said Avner Ben-Ner, a professor at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and an author of the study. “ You get more oxygen (氧气) and it increases the ability to think .”

Treadmill desks have got attention because of research which showed the negative (负面的,消极的)effects of sedentary lifestyles and jobs that leave workers sitting all day. But data on the effectiveness of the desks has been relatively rare. There are other downsides (不利方面) , as The Wall Street Journal wrote last year, including the possibility of falls and injuries.

Mr. Ben-Ner noted that treadmill users need some time to get used to the ergonomics (人体工程学) of walking while working, including the proper desk height. His team provided no training to employees, and he said that employers who provide such desks should offer help to get users comfortable on the machines.

“This wouldn’t be very good for people who use a needle for their jobs,” he said. “ But everyone who does brain work knows that if you need fresh ideas, taking a walk helps.”

1.According to the passage, fashion treadmill desks offer users many advantages EXCEPT to_______. A.improve their quality of work

B.increase their amount of work

D.keep good relationships with workmates

C.make their health become better and better

2.Which of the following does Mr. Ben-Ner agree?

A.People can do different kinds of work when walking on treadmill. B.The treadmill desks are fit for people solving difficult problems. C.The more oxygen you get, the better your mood is. D.A little walk can make your brain work more actively.

It is 20 years since the City of Taizhou was set up. Our city has become richer and people feel happier. Recently, all of us are talking about how to be civilized students in our .school. In my opinion, we should be polite to our parents and help-them do more housework at home. At school, we should respect our teachers, get on well with our classmates and study hard. We should also obey traffic rules. When the

traffic lights are red, we should stop. When we wait for a bus, we should wait in line. Don't throw litter or spit in public. And we'd better not talk or laugh loudly. We should never say dirty words. Be friendly to others and always ready to help the people in need.

If everyone behaves well, our city will be more beautiful and more attractive. Let's join together to be civilized students!
