D101.1Scope.Fireapparatusaccessroadsshallbeinaccor-dancewiththisappendixandallotherapplicablerequirementsof theInternational Fire Code.
D103.2Grade.Fireapparatusaccessroadsshallnotexceed10percent in grade.
Exception:Gradessteeperthan10percentasapprovedbythe fire chief.
D103.3Turningradius.Theminimumturningradiishallbedetermined by the code official.
D103.4Deadends.Dead-endfireapparatusaccessroadsinexcessof150feet(45720mm)shallbeprovidedwithwidthand turnaround provisions in accordance with Table D103.4.

APPENDIX DD103.5Fireapparatusaccessroadgates.Gatessecuringthefireapparatusaccessroadsshallcomplywithallofthefollow-ing criteria:
1.The minimum gate width shall be 20 feet (6096 mm).2.Gates shall be of the swinging or sliding type.
3.Constructionofgatesshallbeofmaterialsthatallowmanual operation by one person.
4.Gatecomponentsshallbemaintainedinanoperativeconditionatalltimesandreplacedorrepairedwhende-fective.
5.Electricgatesshallbeequippedwithameansofopeningthegatebyfiredepartmentpersonnelforemergencyac-cess.Emergencyopeningdevicesshallbeapprovedbythe code official.

D105.2Width.Fireapparatusaccessroadsshallhaveamini-mumunobstructedwidthof26feet(7925mm)intheimmedi-atevicinityofanybuildingorportionofbuildingmorethan30feet (9144 mm) in height.
D105.3Proximitytobuilding.Atleastoneoftherequiredac-cessroutesmeetingthisconditionshallbelocatedwithinaminimumof15feet(4572mm)andamaximumof30feet(9144mm)fromthebuilding,andshallbepositionedparallelto one entire side of the building.

D107.1One-ortwo-familydwellingresidentialdevelop-ments.Developmentsofone-ortwo-familydwellingswherethenumberofdwellingunitsexceeds30shallbeprovidedwithseparateandapprovedfireapparatusaccessroads,andshallmeet the requirements of Section D104.3.Exceptions:
1.Wherethereare30orfewerdwellingunitsonasinglepublicorprivateaccesswayandalldwellingunitsareprotectedbyapprovedresidentialsprinklersystems,access from two directions shall not be required.2.Thenumberofdwellingunitsonasinglefireappara-tusaccessroadshallnotbeincreasedunlessfireappa-ratusaccessroadswillconnectwithfuturedevelopment, as determined by the code official.
